Description

A classic dessert featuring juicy blueberries and a golden, buttery biscuit-style topping. Perfect for summer, holidays, or cozy family gatherings. Easy to make with pantry staples and customizable for gluten-free or dairy-free variations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • Optional: cinnamon, nutmeg, or lemon zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix blueberries with sugar and lemon juice in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt; stir in milk until just combined.
  4. Pour melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  5. Pour batter over butter without stirring.
  6. Spoon blueberry mixture evenly on top of the batter.
  7. Optional: sprinkle cinnamon or nutmeg, brush with extra butter.
  8. Bake 45–50 minutes until top is golden and filling bubbles.
  9. Cool 10–15 minutes before serving; serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Use thawed frozen blueberries if fresh aren’t available.
  • Avoid overmixing batter for a tender topping.
  • Can make ahead by preparing batter and fruit separately; assemble before baking.
