- 2 cups all-purpose flour

- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ cups unsweetened apple sauce
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or raisins (optional)
Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, spices, and salt.

In a large bowl, mix apple sauce, oil, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.

Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Do not overmix.

If using, stir in walnuts or raisins.

Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Serve plain, dusted with powdered sugar, or topped with cream cheese frosting.
